Not Comfortable Celebrating Wins or Joy Even Feels Scary?
In this episode of Powered by Joy Podcast we are diving into people who struggle with feeling like it's braggy to their wins and successes? Or just not capable of enjoying and celebrating accomplishments or blessings? If so, you're not alone. Many of us find it challenging to acknowledge our accomplishments, fearing judgment or appearing too self-centered. However, it's essential to celebrate our joys and achievements, both for ourselves and to inspire others.
Most often it seems to be two types of sharing: ego-based, which seeks to raise status and gain attention, and heart-based, which stems from genuine joy. Recently, I realized my discomfort in sharing a significant personal milestone—a long-awaited dream car —stemmed from fearing it would seem braggy or boastful. This hesitation is common, as we're often taught from a young age to suppress our joy to fit in. Often, we don’t share our joy, because we feel we don’t even have something small to feel joy about!
A powerful lesson I learned from a Tony Robbins event was to celebrate even the smallest wins with physical gestures and vocal expressions. So we discuss starting small, celebrate with yourself, then share with close friends and family, and eventually, with the broader world. Overcoming the fear of judgment and unworthiness is key to expanding our capacity for joy. The more we keep it to ourselves the more our capacity for joy contracts and shrinks! Yuck!
Here are 3 steps to get you more comfortable sharing that JOY!
- Start Small: Celebrate everyday accomplishments with enthusiasm with yourself.
- Share with Safe People: Begin by sharing your joys with trusted friends and family.
- Expand Your Comfort Zone and Joy Capacity: Gradually move towards sharing in larger groups or on social media.
Let's make a conscious effort to celebrate our successes and share our joys. By doing so, we can lead by example and create a positive ripple effect, encouraging others to embrace and express their own joys. Maybe your small share of joy with someone else plants the seed for them to see a small moment of joy in their own life they wouldn’t have noticed before. Let's be the people who spread some joy, gratitude and celebrate life's wins and blessings more often.
