Using Joy & Play to Cope with Stress and Negative Emotions- Part 1
This episode of Powered by Joy Podcast, we discuss coping with stress and intense emotions. We begin by reflecting on how most of us deal with stress, Perhaps numbing through activities like endless scrolling, ignoring feelings, or reacting with irritability. We explore the importance of developing healthy coping tools. I share a couple personal stories from childhood escapism through imaginative play to later transitioning to things like eating sweets and food for comfort. By becoming aware of our feelings and how we are coping we can try to use new strategies. With a few helpful questions this can become another practice and add more tools to your coping tool box.
Some of my experiences with coaching and going through the Tony Robbins' Mastery University, helped me become more aware of my stress responses and develop healthier coping tools. Wanting to share what was learned; the value of intentional actions like asking oneself the right questions (which you learn in this episode!), identifying the right activities that bring joy, peace, or happiness, and ensuring these choices do not lead to regret. Considering the importance of physical movement and play, sharing how activities like playing with my children or taking a relaxing bath helped me manage stress. I encourage you to find joy and gratitude in small moments, proposing the idea that deliberate, joyful actions can significantly impact one's emotional well-being. Over time it can also increase your capacity for more joy in your daily life.
The following episode will be diving further into specific ideas and ways to think up ways to play or feel/seek joy in those stressful times! So make sure you tune in next Tuesday!
