Using Joy & Play to Cope with Stress & Negative Emotions- Feminine & Masculine Energy Tools-Part 2

In this episode of the Powered by Joy podcast, we explore the concept of choosing the right type of play to bring joy and explore more ways to effectively manage stress and emotions. Building on the previous episode,we delve into how aligning your play with either feminine or masculine energy can help counterbalance your current emotional state. We touch on feminine energy with qualities such as being flowy, intuitive, nurturing, and creative, whereas masculine energy is associated with structure, assertiveness, focus, and protection. Depending on one's dominant energy, different types of play can often help restore balance.

For those who find themselves in their masculine energy—often associated with stress, anger, or dominance—consider engaging in more feminine activities. I share a personal story about dealing with stress by diving into feminine energy, which meant crying extensively for far too many hours... However, I realized that a more effective strategy would have been to engage in a masculine activity like an intense workout, which always helped me feel grounded, empowered, and centered. Conversely, if one is predominantly in their feminine energy, characterized by worry, helplessness, or anxiety, engaging in masculine activities can provide a balancing effect.

We consider the importance of finding a balance between these energies through play, doing so could significantly impact how you handle stress and emotions. One suggestion is to make a list of activities that fall into both categories and to refer to it when needed, depending on how you are feeling. Additionally, a bonus tip is exploring opportunities to show acts of kindness as a powerful way to shift your emotional state, adding a layer of fulfillment and joy through service to others. Shifting your focus off yourself and onto coming from kindness towards others can be a surprisingly helpful tool.

To conclude, your suggested "homework" assignment: create a list of playful activities aligned with both masculine and feminine energies, and use it as a resource in times of stress. For example, painting for feminine and doing a boxing workout for masculine. Highlighting the importance of feeling worthy of joy and giving yourself permission to experience it, hints at further discussion in the next episode. So make sure you stay tuned next week!
